1. What are Changes?

  • In its simplest form a Change (ChangeUp) is the difference in viewable content that occurs about every 30 minutes on the webpage your bookmark is referencing. We only monitor the content the human eye can see on the webpage. So ads, images and linked content are ignored and will not be considered when performing a difference between checks.

  • For an example of what Changes look like, click here to see all the Changes occuring at Boy Genius Report right now.

2. Can I import my browsers bookmarks?

  • diphur supports bookmarks importing from the following browsers and also from delicious.com

  • Internet Explorer (version 6+)
  • Safari (version 2+)
  • Chrome (all versions)
  • FireFox (versions 3+)
  • delicious.com

  • diphur also allows exporting all your bookmarks. We output the file in the Mozilla Standard Output bookmark file format. This is the format used by almost all brwosers and also delicious.com.

3. Does diphur support bookmarklets?

  • Why yes, yes we do support bookmarklets!

  • The bookmarklet named “bookmark on diphur.com” allows you to bookmark a web page while your browsing without having to visit diphur.com each time.

  • The bookmarklet named “view username's bookmarks” allows you to have a one click access to all your bookmarks.

  • Just click and drag the yellow boxes onto your browsers “Bookmark Bar” or anywhere you can place a hyper-link.

  • Please visit your settings page and your bookmarklets are visible at the bottom of the page.

4. Does diphur support tagging?

  • Yes diphur.com supports tags. You may specify up-to 5 tags per bookmark.

  • Tags are individual words separated with a space you enter in the Tags field when you add or edit a bookmark.

  • Examples of tags are:
    financial stocks investments

  • Remember, you seperate tags with a space!

  • diphur.com also supports something called slashtags which are similar to tags but are separated with the forward slash ‘/’ character.

  • Slashtags are continuous words separated with a slash you enter in the Tags field when you add or edit a bookmark.

Think of slashtags as placing a hierarchy (or a folder structure if you will) on the way you want to access bookmarks.

Using the below slashtag examples if I entered /financial stocks I am really saying find all bookmarks that begin with financial and has the tag stock coming after it in the slashtag field. If I enter /repairs/home diphur.com would show you all the bookmarks that are related to home repairs.

  • Examples of slashtags:
    /financial/investments/stocks
    /financial/investments/ira
    /repairs/home/kitchen
    /repairs/home/garage
    /repairs/automotive/starter

  • Remember, you seperate slashtags with the forward slash ‘/’ character.

5. Searching bookmarks using search inputs

  • There are three types of text you can enter into the search box either one type at a time or all of them combined at once.

  • diphur will use your input and search the bookmarks title, description, tags and host-name referenced in the bookmarks. This allows you to filter bookmarks down to a group of like bookmarks or all the way down to a single bookmark.

  • Tag input
The first type is the tag input, if you use this type, it must be the first item to appear in the search box and must begin with the forward slash character ‘/’. diphur will use this type and only include bookmarks that are tagged with your input.

    Examples of tag input include:
    /news
    /mobile
    /internet/technology

Remember, if you use the tag input it must be the first input type to appear in the search box!

  • Host-name Input
The second type is the host-name input, use this to locate bookmarks that are referencing specific websites. You need only supply as much of the name that you remember including the dot ‘.’ for diphur to recognize it as a valid host-name input. In the below example ‘crunch.’ would match ‘techcrunch.com’ and ‘mobilecrunch.com’.

    Examples of host-name input include:
    yahoo.com
    crunch.
    msn.com

  • Keyword input
The third type is the keyword input and as the name suggests, it will find bookmarks with your keywords located in the bookmarks title and description fields. Specify as many keywords as you want and separate them with a space.

    Examples of keywords include:
    finance business
    videos photos
    home repair diy

  • Examples of tag, host-name and keyword search inputs
    /news yahoo. hong kong
    /internet business businessinsider.com
    world news

One final note, when searching be aware of where diphur is at regarding the url as the search is relative from the current url when no tag input is specified.

Example, if diphur’s url is sitting at diphur.com/business and you enter keywords to search, diphur will only search bookmarks that have the ‘business’ tag associated with them.

To be sure the search will begin at the root level, click the home link prior to searching.

6. How is diphur different than an RSS reader?

  • There is actually a big difference between the two.

  • Web sites may or may not elect to provide RSS feeds to their published content. The content they do provide via RSS is hand chosen by them and may or may not be the actual content you are looking for.

  • With diphur.com we look at all the content on any web page ever published and supply you with only the changes that are occurring, regardless if they provide RSS feeds or not.

7. Does diphur provide RSS feeds for Changes?

  • diphur.com provides live RSS feeds for both bookmark domain level and all the Recent Changes currently occurring for all bookmarks on diphur.com. We will be expanding this in the future to allow user bookmarks and keywords RSS feeds.

  • The following picture shows where the Recent Changes RSS feed is located towards the bottom of the pages. Since this RSS feed is emitting all real time Recent Changes for all bookmarks on diphur.com, it is updating rapidly.

  • When viewing bookmarks on the home page you will notice an RSS icon located to the left of the bookmark’s category and hostname. In the following picture if you subscribed to this RSS feed, you would be receiving all Changes of all the bookmarks monitoring the host of mlive.com.

8. Why am I not receiving Change notifications or receiving them late?

  • In almost all cases it’s because a Keyword or Exact Phrase was entered when the bookmark was added and the user forgot about entering them and the changing content never contained either one.

  • Remember your Change must contain what you enter into these fields before diphur.com will notify you of any change occurring. In other cases, the user forgot they specified Weekly notifications and expected to receive Daily notifications.

  • Sometimes due to the volume of email diphur.com sends each day, some ISP’s especially Yahoo and AOL may throttle the amount of emails we can send each hour. When throttling is in place, you will still receive your notification, it just may be at most 30 min late.

  • In other cases it’s been a problem with the user’s ISP (msn.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com or gmail.com) accepting our email as non spam, in which case we cannot prevent this. Inform your ISP that you will be receiving email from diphur.com.

  • Also check your local spam filter to see if it is quarantining diphur.com email.

  • Sometimes as much as we don’t like to admit it, some web pages just do not change, diphur.com is evidence based, if no changes were found, then no Changes are reported.

  • Maybe you should revisit the web site and see if they have a “New Products” or a “News Release” area on it that are better suited for monitoring. Remember diphur.com only emails changes detected on web sites.

9. Why do some of my bookmarks have different colors for the border and background?

  • This makes it easier for you to know what you have already bookmarked when searching diphur.com.

  • The rule for the coloring is as follows:

    Not bookmarked has no border.
Bookmarked has Green border with White background.
Bookmarked Private has Green border with Gray background.
    Favorite has Purple border.
Dead Link has Red border with White background.

10. Why doesn’t diphur do what I want?

  • It’s because you haven’t asked us to implement a feature you want yet!

  • We are serious when we say our users drive the current and soon to be implemented feature sets here at diphur.com.

  • Use the feedback link at the bottom of all pages to suggest features you would like to see here at diphur.com or just email me at rodney [at] diphur.com to request a new feature.

  • We read each and every request and if you email Rodney directly, he will reply.
